چکیده
In this paper, several optical beamforming architectures are proposed and experimentally demonstrated. The progress achieved for realizing these architectures with integrated optics is also reported. Due to its advanced features (fast-switching, huge bandwidth, immunity to EMI) the proposed photonic integrated beamforming architectures are a very promising alternative to traditional beamforming technologies for implementing beamformed base-station antennas in Fixed and Mobile Broadband Wireless Access networks operating in the mm-wave band. The work presented here has been carried out in the frame of the IST 2000-25390 OBANET project.

Fixed and Mobile Broadband Wireless Access Networks Employing Optically Beam-formed Antennas
Broadband wireless access networks that operate in the millimetre-wave frequency band are envisaged to fulfil the bandwidth requirements of broadband multimedia services. At these frequencies, temporary obstacles and adverse meteorological conditions may drastically impair on the system performance by intercepting the required line-of-sight radio wave propagation, which results in degrading the...

OBANET project aims at designing and testing specific coverage area management strategies as well as their associated technologies for performance optimisation in broadband adaptive broadband wireless access networks in two scenarios: fixed and mobile broadband radio accesses in the 40 GHz band. Optically beamformed base station antennas capabilities to address dynamically changes in the networ...
متن کاملDesign of Photonic Crystal Polarization Splitter on InP Substrate
In this article, we suggested a novel design of polarization splitter based on coupler waveguide on InP substrate at 1.55mm wavelength. Photonic crystal structure is consisted of two dimensional (2D) air holes embedded in InP/InGaAsP material with an effective refractive index of 3.2634 which is arranged in a hexagonal lattice. The photonic band gap (PBG) of this structure is determined using t...

Broadband, low loss and cost-effective transmission capability of optical fiber links has led to an ever-increasing interest in their use for the generation and distribution of millimeter-wave (mm-wave) signals for broadband wireless access networks and sensor networks. In this paper, some new techniques in photonic generation of mm-wave signals for radio-over-fiber (RoF) network applications a...
متن کاملMillimeter-wave Gbps Broadband Evolution towards 5G: Fixed Access and Backhaul
As wireless communication evolves towards 5G, both fixed broadband and mobile broadband will play a crucial part in providing the Gbps infrastructure for a connected society. This paper proposes a Millimeter-wave Gbps Broadband (MGB) system as the solution to two critical problems in this evolution: last-mile access for fixed broadband and small cell backhaul for mobile broadband. The key idea ...
